Pinewood Derby Day 2014

Today was the eagerly anticipated pinewood derby for the pack.  For the kids it meant a day watching little blocks of wood that had been transformed into race cars, rock cars, minions, the Family Truckster, a spiderweb with candy bars on the inside for weight, to the feared wedge.  There were many cars, and a great deal of creativity expressed in the cars that came to run. Tonight when I go to bed I will hear "three, two, one, GO!!!"

For the parents it was a day to get out for some, others a day to juggle multiple schedules, a day to look on with pride at what their son or daughter created, and for some, a day to look at the car little Johnny was racing that they built from scratch (they being the parent).

For the leaders it was a day up on their feet, refreshing skills on how to manage a six lane track, and how to organize cars. For the leaders in my pack, or at least for me, it was another event where leaders, parents, scouts, and the cub scouts came together, worked together and demonstrated the core values of scouting to kids.

Fun, and lots of fun at that, was had by all.  The largest class of cars were the family open race where we had some 35 cars registered and racing, including mine, the land speeder from Star Wars.

Of course, a shot of the track with a view I had for quite a while today.
