Friday, there is something about that date which evokes pleasant thoughts. Thoughts of a few days away from work, the ole’ grinding stone. The definition of Friday from Webster’s On-line dictionary is below:
Pronunciation: 'frI-(")dA,-dEFunction: nounEtymology: Middle English, from Old English frIgedæg (akin to Old High German frIatag Friday), from *FrIg Frigga + dæg day, prehistoric translation of Latin dies Veneris Venus' day: the sixth day of the week
If one reads the definition it does not suggest that sense of relief that Friday brings. That sense of, another week has been successfully accomplished. We think of Friday as being the 5th day of the week, instead of the 6th like it is liked in the definition above. I think that is because in the ancient days the week started on Sunday.
Even if the official definition is not fill with joy and happiness, I am filled with both joy and happiness.
