I have heard several talk radio host comparing the action in Iraq to that of WWII. I presume the parallel that they are drawing upon is that Pearl Harbor was the event that led America into WWII, and the World Trade Center attach is what propelled America into the war against terror. To a certain extent I do not under stand their comparison between the two wars. In WWII the Allied Forces had a clear objective, beat the Germans, Japanese, and reading material.

Sunday Funnies
I read an article about some Catholic school kids that are going to have to be sensitized because they yelled "We Love Jesus," during a basketball game. The opposing team's school had a large number of Jewish people attending the school. I think that it is a farce, it is not like they yelled, "You killed Jesus, the Savior of the world," or "We love Hitler." Click HERE to read the article.

There is really not much additional news from the home front. On a side note, I have always been surprised at the events that lead up to World War I, "The War to End all Wars". As taken from Wikipedia, "On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip shot and killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austria-Hungarian throne, and his wife, in Sarajevo after purchasing a sandwich. Princip was a member of Young Bosnia, a group whose aims included the unification of the South Slavs and independence from Austria-Hungary (see also: the Black Hand). The assassination in Sarajevo set into motion a series of fast-moving events that escalated into a full-scale war. However, the ultimate causes of the conflict were multiple and complex." This assassination, the fact that the Russian Czar, King of England, and Emperor of Germany were all related, and a tightly nit group of allies in Western Europe lead to the war. America eventually found its way into the war.

Isaiah 6
One of my best friends from high school moved to Dallas after graduation (or his parents did) and we went down to visit one weekend. I asked his dad how he like their new neighborhood (which was a neighborhood where all the house looked the same, and it had a mundane feel), he said, "I love it, I don't take to my neighbors and they do not talk to me..." Is this the attitude that the church is taking? Is the church somehow distancing itself from the word around it? I do not think that the church should embrace certain ideas because society has, yet, we must not be reclusive how is the church going to be a rock to someone if it is buried under the sand?
Isaiah 6 (NIV)
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."
4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
5 "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."
6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
9 He said, "Go and tell this people: " 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'
10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. [a] Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed."
11 Then I said, "For how long, O Lord?"And he answered: "Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged,
12 until the LORD has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken. 13 And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave tumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land."

Fat Tuesday
Today was a Tuesday but it felt like a Monday all day long, and it was filled with a few surprises and course corrections. I attended a meeting at church which was okay, sometimes I feel bewildered after these meetings, especially when we talk about the areas that are in need of work. It invariably seems that I am involved in whatever area needs improvement...

Do you Know what you are Consuming?
The day was a good day, even though I woke up at 6:00 am, and was pretty tired all day. We went to church and then a dinner after church. When I returned home I worked on finishing the trim, and the paperwork around the house. It is simply amazing the amount of Paperwork that must be completed when owning your own home... Tonight I went to Allsups (headquartered in beautiful Clovis, NM) to get some chap stick and stinking chips (that is what Amy calls them). They are really Frito's "Chili Cheese" and they are wonderful. They stock them in the vending machine in our office building so I usually consume one or tow small bags per week.
It is time to get political...
John McCain has said on numerous occasions that the "Non-Binding Resolution" will do nothing more that Demoralize the troops and strengthen our enemies. Yet, when they voted on the non-binding resolution down, John McCain himself skipped the vote to campaign for his presidential efforts. One mush ask the question, if it is so imported to the troops why did he skip the voting?

V- Day
The church had planned a steak dinner and a program to kick off a Wednesday night study time tonight. However, due to the frigid temperature the event was closed. I had planned on going to the mean and was thrown for a loop when it was canceled. I decided that I should pick some food up on the way home and went to the Plaza, where Amy had called in an order. The plaza was as crowed as it is for Sunday Lunch. There were people everywhere, I though that I was going to get stuck inside, it reminded me of the soccer games that have stampedes and the like.
I am wiped out from a hard day at work, and should retire to the couch or bed for Rest and Relaxation (I don't want to fall a sleep and hit my head on the key board.)

It was Monday, and as such work was a wee bit crazy all day long, not only that, but emotions ran high during a traffic discussion with some people. The frustration threshold was pretty low today for some people.
I heard an interesting bit on the sounds of dentistry today while I was driving to the city. It was on NPR and you can listen by clicking HERE. It does not make you want to go to the dentist.

"Time is on my side, yes, it is.
Time is on my side, yes, it is. "
While Alabama sing a song that has a chorus that goes like this,
"Oh I'm in a hurry to get things done
Oh I rush and rush until life's no fun
All I really gotta do is live and die
But I'm in a hurry and don't know why"
Do you live your life like the Rolling Stones or Alabama? I would write more, but I have time constraints.

Friday Night Blues
Life here has been pretty uneventful. Cap went and played at Honey's house to day, he and Crash had a good time, we had supper there and all was well. I at some Boston Cream Pie for desert which really hit the spot. THe rest of the world has been focus on the death of a playboy model who married a billionare for his money, and the president race, a race which will last almost two years. I think that perhpas amercia could make a dent in many of the social issues, (healthcare, Social Securtiy, wellfare) if only the money spent campaigning was put into these goverment progrmas. Billions will be spent by compaines and weathly individuals to bankroll thier canadiates, why one might ask, the answer is simple, influence.

George Bush and SMU
Opposition

A UMNS Report By
Kathy L. Gilbert*
A group of United Methodist clergy and lay people have
launched an online petition drive to pressure Southern Methodist University to
drop its bid for the George W. Bush Presidential Library.
But others in the
denomination do not agree with that position. "What is now political controversy
will, in a short time, become historical study," said one United Methodist
bishop in response to the petition drive.
In a letter, Scott Jones, bishop of
the Kansas Area and a former SMU faculty member, said, "The proposed
relationship between the Bush library and SMU is an important step forward for
the university."
Opponents have said that Bush, a United Methodist, does not
uphold United Methodist principles in his policies and that the university
should not host his library.
Jones conceded that the president's church
membership "has been controversial for some in our church who disagree with his
policies," but he lauded the "wide spectrum of political views" within the
denomination.
"I am grateful that the UMC includes both Sen. Hillary Clinton
and President Bush as active, faithful members. At times I disagree with both,
and at times I agree with both. But they are my sister and brother in Christ,
and I claim them as part of my United Methodist family," the bishop said.
The
university was named the finalist for the presidential library Dec. 21, but a
final decision about the location will not be made for a few more months.
Southern Methodist University is one of 123 educational institutions related to
the United Methodist Church. First lady Laura Bush is an SMU
graduate.
"Because SMU is owned by The United Methodist Church, the
imposition of a George W. Bush library, museum and think tank at SMU will
irreparably connect the denomination with this presidency," said the Rev. Andrew
J. Weaver, one of the organizers of the "Protect SMU" petition drive and a
graduate of SMU's Perkins School of Theology. "Members of the UMC, therefore,
should be able to express their opinion on this matter before a final decision
is reached."
As of Jan. 19, 10 bishops, including Joe A. Wilson, Hope Morgan
Ward and Alfred W. Gwinn Jr., have signed the petition, as well as five clergy
and three church members.
Southern Methodist University released a statement
saying, "The opportunity for a group of United Methodist ministers to circulate
a petition reflects the tradition and values of the church for open dialogue on
important issues. Embracing those same values, we at SMU respect their right to
express their views.
"As we have indicated, the presence of the Bush Library
and Institute at SMU would support education, research and discussion on the
important issues of this era - all activities that reflect the United Methodist
heritage in higher education. The South Central Jurisdiction of the church
organized SMU as a Texas nonprofit organization under the management and control
of a board of trustees. Fifty percent of the board's membership is United
Methodist, including three bishops and two ordained clergy."
The
petition - www.protectSMU.org - is being
circulated online with a goal to make the petition available to all members of
The United Methodist Church, Weaver said.

Regional bishops back SMU process on Bush library
Feb. 7, 2007

A UMNS Report By Linda Green*
Bishops representing United Methodists in eight south central U.S. states affirmed the process by which Southern Methodist University is seeking to host the George W. Bush presidential library and policy center.
Ten of the 11 active bishops of the South Central Jurisdiction voted Feb. 5 in favor of a resolution to affirm the board of trustees of the United Methodist-related university for its process aimed at bringing the library to the Dallas campus.
"We believe Southern Methodist University's trustees and administration are acting responsibly and in good faith," the College of Bishops said in the resolution. The body praised SMU President Gerald Turner's "careful stewardship and advocacy of the historic relationship between the university and the church" throughout the process.
A presidential library site selection committee announced Dec. 21 it would negotiate exclusively with SMU for the Bush library, prompting some faculty members, alumni and United Methodists to raise sharp questions about identifying SMU with the Bush presidency. Much of the opposition centers on Bush's foreign policy, mainly the war in Iraq. Other critics say a presidential library belongs at a public university - not a private, church-related one.
"We understand the controversy involved in this proposal," the bishops' resolution stated. "Our action today is focused on the process in which SMU has been engaged. SMU has been forthcoming and transparent in its dealings and communication with us."
Arkansas Bishop Charles Crutchfield proposed the resolution "because I thought we needed to affirm the process and procedures of the board of trustees" in the wake of much debate and discussion. "The resolution is not about the library coming to campus. It is about affirming the process of the board of trustees," he said.
SMU trustees passed a resolution in 2001 fully endorsing the school's quest for the library. Fifty percent of the trustees' membership is United Methodist, including three bishops and two pastors of large church congregations and the former dean of Yale Divinity School.
Kansas Bishop Scott Jones, also a trustee for SMU, called the bishops' resolution "an important affirmation of the integrity of SMU's trustees and administration in pursuing the Bush Library.
"This is not a partisan issue," Jones said. "It is an issue focused on how SMU can best accomplish its mission as a top-ranked Christian university. Our college strongly supports SMU's mission and recognizes SMU's leadership for their pursuit of excellence."
Another university trustee, Nebraska Bishop Ann Sherer, said the College of Bishops wanted to affirm "Dr. Gerald Turner … and the cooperative spirit he displays in relationship to The United Methodist Church."
First lady Laura Bush is a graduate of SMU and serves as a trustee, but has not been part of the board's library discussions, according to school officials. The Bushes are members of Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, near to the SMU campus.
One petition being circulated, which has drawn approximately 10,000 online entries including the signatures of 600 United Methodist clergy, says linking the Bush presidency with a university bearing the Methodist name is "utterly inappropriate."
Crutchfield said much of the current debate is not about the proposed library, but about the policy institute that would be connected to the library. "I personally feel that in the marketplace of ideas, SMU is strong and it has a wonderful faculty and the library will be an important addition to the campus," he said.
Oklahoma Bishop Robert Hayes says SMU and The United Methodist Church have had a "unique" relationship since the church founded the school in 1911. The university's bylaws occasionally require approval by the South Central Jurisdiction on actions involving the sale or lease of property.
Hayes said the regional bishops sought to "leave the arena of politics outside" its action because the body is responsible for maintaining the bylaws and the church's relationship with SMU. "This is the discipline and order of the church working at its finest," he said.
The South Central Jurisdiction represents 1.8 million United Methodists in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas and includes approximately 6,400 local churches.

Cap and the Geese
Today was a normal day, I went to work, grilled hamburgers for supper, and most of the ice has finally melted off of our driveway. I read an interesting editorial by Cal Thomas, a link is below, and to that end there were two editorials just about Hillary Clinton in the paper today. Saturday I wanted to listen to a little conservative talk radio on the XM Radio. So I tuned it in and went to the garage to begin staining the door. About the time I got to staining I realized that the show on the radio was some Motor Trend radio show, and I was crushed. I had stain on my gloves so I could not go in and change the station, and the announcer was droning on about cars and such. (Don't misunderstand, I like cars, I was just in the mood for a little political discussion.) Fortunately I listened Saturday evening and the commentator was explaining how Hillary Clinton lied about her vote in favor of the Iraq war, which was what Cal Thomas wrote about in his editorial. Click here to read his editorial.

Super Sunday
The Colts won the super bowl and Tony Dungy referenced God and his faith in Jesus Christ in his speech after the game. I am sure that many Secularist across the country frowned at his comments. I found it interesting that both Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith were both strong Christan believers. (On a side note, I find that a couch with the name Lovie is just plain interesting in and of itself.) Of course last week there were many news articles, stories and interviews about the Super bowl. I found the following to be interesting, Long-Snappers May Help Decide Super Bowl.

Punxsutawney Phil
Well of course he did not see his shadow, it was dark outside...
Hillary Rodham Clinton , everytime I hear her quoated on the news, or a sound bite, I have flashbacks to a teacher running her fingernails down the chaclkboard.
Today's verse of the day is, Psalm 13
1 How long, O LORD ? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;
4 my enemy will say, "I have overcome him," and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me"
A movie quote, because I could not find any good quotes about groundhog day.
"So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald ... striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one – big hitter, the Lama – long, into a 10,000-foot crevice, right at the base of this glacier. And do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga ... gunga – gunga lagunga. So we finish the 18th and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. "

Mazie the Wonderdog
I did not feel well last night and went to bed around 8:30 which is really early for me, I slept until it was time to get up, waking every 2 - 2.5 hours. I had this dream that we moved into a house and the center room in the house was an immaculate bathroom (kind of strange). There were snow flurries about this afternoon and evening, although they have quit. I once thought that it would be fun to live in Alaska, however, after 3 weeks of near freezing temperatures I am beginning to rethink my theory.
Mazie the wonderdog jumped off the bed this morning and began limping, so she was taken to the vet. Of course once there she did not limp any more, but when returned home it began again. It is like taking a car to the shop for the funny noise, and then it will not make the funny noise with the mechanic there. This episode give me doubts about her status as the "Wonderdog"?
Today's bible versus is Genesis 1:26
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
